Dartford Fc

My last post was about my favourite club Chelsea, this time it's about another club I support, my local team, Dartford Fc.

It was back in 2006 when I first really started to notice this club, this may seem surprising but it's because before this time there wasn't even a stadium in Dartford, they played their home games in Gravesend (not actually anywhere near Dartford).
Alas in 2006 the new stadium was built, Princes park, and at the time it was one of the top stadiums in the Isthmian league division with a capacity of over 4000. Everything after this date seemed to fall into place, there was optimism in the air and great turnouts every week, the atmosphere is always good and I don't mean thousands of people just swearing and shouting at the other fans like in the premier league, no, the lower leagues may not provide stellar football 100% of the time but it's always a good laugh. There's also the fact that prices are a lot lower, but back to our little reign of success, in the 2007/08 season we were champions after a great season including a 21 match unbeaten run promoting us to the Isthmian premier league.

The 2008/09 season was one of consolidation for the club but it also saw Dartford play against their rivals Dover, I was lucky enough to witness one of these grudge matches ending in a 1-1 draw and thus started going to see the Darts every other week. It's a good place to go, especially for younger fans, and families.

The next season was another glorious one as we clinched the premier division title with 6 games to spare, 2011 was another consolidation year, but the next led to yet another promotion as we finished second in the league and having to go through Basingstoke, then another close rival Welling to grab promotion into the conference or Blue Square premier!

That brings us to the current season, and after such a great 5 years of success, Dartford sit in 5th after 20 games. Not bad at all, and we've come so far i'd love to see them hit the football league. So if you live in the area or anywhere with a lower league team, go and check it out, it really is worth it!
